Three awardees receive awards for their service to the Fresno community over decades: David Haynes, Dr. Robert Mikell and Chris Finley.
Coming up next week on the ONME Network, viewers can get a first glimpse of what they missed June 8, 2024 at the KOFP Radio Black Music Month & Community Love Block Party Awards Celebration at Vision View. The celebration included the re-launch of KOFP Radio "The Voice" since its inception in 2015 by the late founder, Patrick Okoegwale.
KOFP Radio's parent organization, Helping Others Pursue Excellence (H.O.P.E.) brought in The ONME Network's CEO, Julia Ann Dudley Najieb, to begin general management of the dormant radio station as early as late may of last year. Within that year's time, KOFP Radio has garnered over a half-a million corporate and local funds to upgrade and revive the terrestrial radio station, 103.3 FM, as it has now been back on the airwaves locally since then. Listeners can also get access to the 24/7 programming on KOFP Radio online, in their cars while driving, and through third party podcasts and radio apps.
In honor of the late founder, Patrick Okoegwale, and past radio station owner, Woody Miller, three community awards were given at the event: The Woody Miller Community & Broadcast Award was given to retired Fresno State professor, Dr. Robert Mikell [90.7 KFSR]; the KOFP Radio Community Gospel Award went to Fresno church community singer, David Haynes; The Patrick Okoegwale “Innovative Award” went to Edison High School innovative educator, Chris Finley. The awards presentation can also be seen during the TV broadcast starting July 1, 2024, on the ONME Network, by way of the CMAC channels, Comcast Xfinity — Channel 93, AT&T U-Verse — Channel 99 and Roku from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday, Tuesday and Friday; 9:00 AM- 12:00 PM Wednesday and Thursdays throughout July. The rebroadcast is sponsored by The ONME Network, CMAC, and other corporate sponsors. Viewers can then watch video excerpts online at KOFP Radio TV and ONME video players starting July 4, 2024.
Featuring emcees, Ken Mccoy and Feather Da-Wyz, along with Deejay, Danny Alberty, KOFP Radio's Black Music Month event highlighted local musicians and emerging band, JPEG Sessions, a local jazz-infused R&B group made up of four Fresno State students and graduates; legendary musical artists Bobby Brown, Bobby Logan, Charles “Al Turner,” Baby Bee and Ed Burke, followed by headliner group, Jamillah Oliver’s BreakBox Thought Collective.
KOFP Radio is now preparing for its next community event starting in October with Kuumba Nights, managed by Gregory Melancon; people can sign up to do live open mic live on the radio airwaves.
