It's about that time of the year again for the 'Old Time Jubilee' at Allensworth this Ma

ALLENSWORTH, CA -- The annual Old Time Jubilee, May 19th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Allensworth State Park invites Californians to experience history, fun and and a tradition that has been passed on since the inception of the towns initial beginnings--May was the time of year when the carnival came to town.

When the calendar turned to May, mothers, fathers and especially the children of Allensworth eagerly awaited the arrival of the carnival. The sights and sounds of the carnival filled the air; the aroma of sweet cotton candy and charred roasted corn, the clang of the bell as young men lift the large mallet overhead then slam it down on the metal plate, people trying to win stuffed animals at the shooting gallery or by knocking milk-bottles off their stand, or popping balloons with darts. The carnival was a welcome respite from the daily routine of life.

Decades later the The Friends of Allensworth is still providing the same festival atmosphere with entertainment featuring gospel, jazz and drama, special activities for children.

The event includes an open-air arts and crafts market, free self-paced tours of the historic buildings, and featured ethic food from throughout the Central Valley.

The Friends of Allensworth and the California Department of Parks and Recreation have prepared a day of family fun at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park on Saturday, May 19th with a nominal admision fee (click above picture for more info.):
